Root Canal Treatment in Jaipur
Pain-free RCT to save infected or damaged teeth.
What is Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment (RCT) removes infected or inflamed pulp from inside a tooth, cleans and shapes the canal, and seals it — relieving pain and stopping the infection from spreading, while keeping your natural tooth in place instead of extracting it.
Why is Root Canal Treatment Needed?
A root canal becomes necessary when the pulp — the soft tissue at the centre of a tooth — becomes infected or inflamed, usually from deep decay, a cracked tooth, or repeated dental procedures on the same tooth. Common signs include lingering pain to hot or cold, tenderness when biting, or swelling near the gum.
Who Is Root Canal Treatment Suitable For?
Anyone with a tooth showing signs of pulp infection — persistent pain, sensitivity to temperature, or swelling — should have it evaluated promptly, since delaying treatment can allow the infection to spread.
Benefits of Root Canal Treatment
- Relieves the pain caused by an infected or inflamed tooth
- Preserves your natural tooth instead of removing it
- Stops infection from spreading to surrounding bone and tissue
- Restores normal biting and chewing once the tooth is capped
- Often completed in a single sitting with modern techniques
Treatment Procedure
- Diagnosis. An exam and X-ray confirm the infection and assess the extent of the damage.
- Cleaning the canal. Under local anaesthesia, the infected pulp is removed and the canal is cleaned and shaped.
- Sealing. The cleaned canal is filled and sealed to prevent reinfection.
- Crown placement. A crown is usually placed over the treated tooth to restore strength and protect it long-term.
Signs you may need a root canal
Common warning signs include a toothache that lingers after hot or cold, pain when biting, a darkened tooth, or a small pimple-like swelling on the gum. Sometimes there are no symptoms at all and the problem is found on an X-ray during a routine check-up. Because these signs can overlap with other dental problems, an examination and X-ray are needed to confirm whether the nerve of the tooth is involved.
Single-visit and multi-visit treatment
Whether a root canal can be completed in one visit depends on the tooth, how many canals it has, and whether there is active infection or swelling. Some teeth are comfortably treated in a single sitting, while others are better treated over two visits, with a medicated dressing placed in between. Your dentist will recommend what is appropriate after assessing the X-ray and the condition of the tooth.
Protecting the tooth afterwards
A tooth that has had root canal treatment can be more prone to fracture, so a filling or crown is usually advised to restore its strength. Until the final restoration is placed, it helps to avoid chewing hard foods on that side. Continue brushing and cleaning between teeth as normal, and attend follow-up visits so that healing can be reviewed, with an X-ray if your dentist feels it is needed.
Recovery & Aftercare
Mild tenderness for a couple of days after the procedure is common and settles with basic care. Most patients resume normal eating once any prescribed follow-up crown is placed and the tooth feels comfortable to bite on.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is root canal treatment painful?
The procedure itself is done under local anaesthesia, so it is generally not painful. Most of the discomfort patients associate with RCT actually comes from the infection before treatment, not the treatment itself.
How long does a root canal take?
Many straightforward cases are completed in a single sitting; more complex cases may need two visits.
Will I need a crown after a root canal?
Usually yes — a crown protects the treated tooth from fracturing since it can become more brittle after treatment.
What happens if I skip root canal treatment?
The infection can spread further, leading to increased pain, abscess formation, and eventually loss of the tooth.
Can a tooth with no pain still need a root canal?
Yes. Sometimes an infected or damaged nerve causes no obvious pain and is picked up on an X-ray or during a check-up. Your dentist can tell you whether treatment is needed.
